In March of 2012, Equity One was selected by the New York City Economic Development Corporation to re-develop a surface parking lot into a 130,000 sq. ft. multi-level retail center with parking at grade. Located at the intersection of W. 230th Street and Broadway, with direct access off of the Major Deegan Expressway, the site is at the hub of a major retail corridor that is well served by subway, buses, and easily accessible by automobiles. With almost 550,000 people within less than three miles, this project reflects Equity One’s strategy of bringing convenience and service oriented shopping to urban areas that are underserved by these types of national retailers. Equity One officially acquired the site from the City in June 2012. Construction will commence in the first quarter of 2013 and the center is expected to open in the fall of 2014.
